We were supposed to be in Texas right now, but we are back at home in Pittsburgh! We had a 6:55 am flight this morning. We showed up earlier than we have ever done before only to find the the longest security line we have ever seen. We were in line for one hour! We ran, literally, to our gate to see the door shut!! We had ten minutes to spare, but they had given our tickets to someone on standby because we weren't there at the 'boarding time'. It was nauseating to sit and stare at our plane still sitting right outside the window and we WEREN'T on it! After reality sunk in, we sprung into action devising a plan. We were first on the standby list for the 12:25 flight. We only had FIVE hours to kill at the airport....no problem! We played games, colored, played with babies and Barbies, ran up and down the halls of the airport, watched The Wizard of Oz, ate at TGI Friday's, walked some more and then played on the playground (inside the airport). We waited by the gate an hour before the flight. We were feeling hopeful because there were at least five people that had not checked in as of five minutes before the flight. Then, BAM, they all came! The flight was 100% full. I started crying, then Addy started crying, and Kate was already crying when we put her back into her stroller. Poor Jason. He felt awful even though it was not his fault. It was all the delays on the east coast because of all the snow....we found out later that is why the security line was SO long. Everyone has been coming first thing in the morning and just putting their names on standby lists until they get lucky and get a flight. So after finding out we were not going to get on that flight we went ahead and got a guaranteed ticket for the next morning at 6:55 (have to wake the girls up again at 4:30 am). They told us that the only other flight at 6:15 was overbooked by three so we didn't want to chance it. After we got home we called just to be sure about that 6 pm flight and they said there were four spots available but we would have to come up there, that we couldn't do it on the phone. In the end we decided not to risk it. So now we are ordering dinner in (because we got rid of all of our food knowing we were going to leave)!! Hopefully we can get some rest tonight only to wake up and do it all over again tomorrow. I have to say the girls were real troopers. Kate only had two meltdowns, one when we were in the security line for an hour and the other when we left the playground. Addy was great until she found out we were for sure not going to TX! She balled for over 30 minutes, "Mimi...Mimi....Mimi" It was so sad! Anyway- we will try again tomorrow. Fingers crossed everyone!
